With every new iPhone generation comes new color options, and the iPhone 16 series gets Apple closer to using every shade and hue of the rainbow.

As usual, the base iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus models are available in brighter and more colorful options than the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, which come in more conservative colors that invoke a more luxurious look.

With the base iPhone 16 models, Apple retained the color-infused glass back of the base iPhone 15 models but switched gears from last year's light pastel color palette and opted for deeper-toned colors on the new models. For the iPhone 16 Pro models, Apple mostly kept the same colors as the iPhone 15 Pro models, except it replaced the Blue Titanium model with a brand-new Desert Titanium option.

The base iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus are available in five colors: ultramarine, teal, pink, black, and white. They have aluminum frames and rear color-infused glass panels and camera modules.

You could argue that the base iPhone 16 models are two-tone, or even tri-tone, rather than a single color. The aluminum frames, clear glass camera islands, and frosted rear glass panels on the base iPhone 16 models vary in depth. The rear camera island is deeper-colored and more closely aligned with the color's namesake than the rest of the phone, which looks pastel (with the exception of the new white colorway). Still, the new lineup's colors are deeper across the board than the definitively pastel colorways of the base iPhone 15 models.

Ultramarine is a new color for the base iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus. It's mostly blue with a slight purple tint. The rear glass panel is a lighter hue of the typical ultramarine color, which almost has a pastel look thanks to its frosted texture. The raised oval pill-shaped camera island uses clear glass, and it's the closest to a true ultramarine blue color.

The matte aluminum frame's color is slightly deeper than the rear glass but still not quite ultramarine.

Teal is also a new color for the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus. It's a blend of green and blue. The rear frosted glass texture has a lighter tone and gives the back a pastel teal shade. The aluminum frame with a matte texture is somewhat deeper in color than the rear glass panel. The raised camera island with clear glass is closer to a true teal.

The new pink colorway for the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus is more vibrant and deep than the lighter pastel pink of the base iPhone 15 models. The clear glass camera island is a deeper pink than the rear glass panel and aluminum frame.

Like other base iPhone 16 models, the matte-textured aluminum frame is slightly deeper in color than the frosted rear glass.

The black iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus option is a classic neutral color that easily complements any case color. For some, black may impart a more premium look. It's been available on several previous iPhone generations. The rear glass panel with a frosted texture is closer to a very dark gray, while the aluminum frame and clear-glass camera island are closer to black.

White is a new color for the base iPhone models year over year, as the iPhone 15 lineup lacked a white colorway. It's a purer white than the Starlight white option from the iPhone 14 series. The white color matches on both the frosted rear glass panel and clear-glass camera island and only differs in texture.

The aluminum frame has a matte silvery brushed metal finish.

The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are available in four colors: Desert Titanium, Natural Titanium, Black Titanium, and White Titanium. Their titanium frames and rear glass panels have a frosted matte texture. The rear camera units are clear glass with an identical color shade as the rear glass panel, except for the Black Titanium model's camera unit, which appears deeper than the rest of the phone's black color. The titanium frames have a slightly darker shade than the rest of the phones.

Desert Titanium is a new colorway for the iPhone 16 Pro models, the latest high-end and one of the very best iPhones available, specs-wise. It has a warm, light golden hue for the rear glass and camera island and a deeper gold color for the frame.

Natural Titanium was also available in the iPhone 15 Pro models. It's the equivalent of a deep silver color option with a slightly warmer tone for the rear glass and camera island.

The Natural Titanium frame also has a warmer silver tone.

Black and White Titanium were also available in the previous iPhone 15 Pro models. They are the classic neutral color options, and you can't go wrong with either. They'll complement any color case you put on them when the camera's color sticks out the back.

For the Black Titanium version, the camera island and frame are a deeper black than the rear glass panel.

The White Titanium version is all matching white, except for the frame, which has a silvery brushed metallic finish.
